Tattoos do involve a level of discomfort, however, most people find it manageable. If you have concerns about the pain, talk with your artist about the area and how you can be the most comfortable. Sometimes numbing cream is suggested to help. More painful areas to steer clear from are directly over bone, scars, and stretch marks.
Sometimes thin line tattoos need touch ups after they are fully healed because they can fade easily, especially on thin skin areas. I recommend waiting as long as you can before coming back for a free touchup, after your first session, this way it will have already fully healed to prevent damaging skin any further. However, I also recommend you get the touch up within 12 months of the first session. Touchups depend entirely on how each individuals skin heals and you do not always need one. Be sure to reach out during the healing process if you have any questions.
TIPS TO PREPARE:
Get Adequate Sleep:
Make sure you get a good night's sleep before your tattoo appointment. Being well-rested will help you stay more relaxed during the session.
Eat a Nutritious Meal:
Have a balanced and substantial meal before your appointment. Eating properly will give you the energy needed to endure the session.
Stay Hydrated:
Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment. Hydrated skin tends to take the tattoo ink better and can make the process more comfortable.
Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine:
Avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine intake before your tattoo session, as they can increase sensitivity and affect the tattooing experience.
Bring Snacks and Water:
Pack some light snacks and water for your tattoo session. Tattoo sessions can be lengthy, and having snacks on hand can help maintain your energy levels.
Dress Comfortably:
Wear loose and comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the area getting tattooed. Avoid tight clothing that could rub against the fresh tattoo.
Entertainment:
Bring something to keep yourself entertained during the session, such as a book, headphones for music or podcasts, or anything else that helps you pass the time.
Take Short Breaks:
If possible, arrange short breaks during the session to stretch, move around, and have a quick rest.
Communicate with Your Artist:
Be open with your tattoo artist about any concerns, questions, or discomfort you may be experiencing during the session. They can adjust their approach or take breaks if needed.
Follow Aftercare Instructions:
Pay close attention to the aftercare instructions provided by your tattoo artist. Properly caring for your tattoo after the session will ensure the best healing and final result.
Remember that getting a long tattoo session can be physically and mentally demanding, so it's essential to take care of yourself before and during the process. Preparing in advance and maintaining good communication with your tattoo artist will help ensure a more positive and successful tattooing experience.
DURING THE CONSULTATION, YOU WILL BE GIVEN AN ESTIMATED TIME.
A consultation is so you can communicate to your artist what you want and they can help to determine the best area and design to fit you and they can determine a solid price and help you make sure you will fall in love with your tattoo and 100% love what you are putting on your body. This is when you can also discuss any questions you have about the process.
